The Nazca Lines are a series of ancient geoglyphs (markings on the earth) located in the Nazca Desert in southern Peru. Throughout a 150-square-mile area in the foothills of the Andes, the Nazca drew lines and vast animal figures which they would never see themselves, as they are only fully comprehensible from the air. The lines may be as narrow as six inches or as wide as several hundred yards and some extend as far as six miles continuing ever-straight and unbroken over valleys and hills! Most startling is the top of one of the mountains was removed and straight-lined runways and a hummingbird were carved in its place.
The purpose of the Nazca lines has long been a subject of debate and there are several theories. Scholars theorize the Nazca people could have used simple tools and surveying equipment to construct the lines 2,000 years ago. Others believe the Nazca lines in Peru are runways of an ancient airfield that was used by extraterrestrials mistaken by the natives to be their gods. Some of the images etched into the sides of the mountains, a Condor, a Heron, an Astronaut, a Monkey, a Spider, a Pelican and a Dog, were made from removing the reddish-brown iron oxide-coated pebbles that cover the surface of the Nazca desert. Similar figures to the giants at Nazca decorate the pottery found in nearby burial sites and it is apparent from their cemeteries that the Nazca were preoccupied with death.
Who removed the entire top of a mountain? Where did the debris go?
